⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jas Hammonds' YA debut, We Deserve Monuments, highlights racial violence, sexuality, friendship, and family. It follows 17-year old Avery, a queer, biracial teen, through her experiences moving from Washington, DC to Bardell, Georgia, after learning her grandmother has cancer. In Bardell, Avery learns about love, loss, and finding peace. Complex and fabulously written, this novel is about reaching out across divides towards empathy and understanding. I highly recommend!
