Tiffany D. Jackson has been on my list of YA authors to read for a while now, so I started with her latest novel: Grown. Inspired by the accusations and allegations against R&B singer R. Kelly, it explores the predatory behavior and sexual abuse of girls by men in the music industry. It is soulful, complex, raw and somehow still appropriate for a young adult audience. Read this when you are in the mood for a lyrical coming-of-age story that is gripping, unflinching and unforgettable. It is Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid meets My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell.
