Lessons in Chemistry: A Novel

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️️️️ Lessons in Chemistry was my FAVORITE book of 2022! The novel follows a determined young chemist and single mother Elizabeth Zott on her career journey during the 1960s. She’s challenged by the patriarchy at every step. The story is extremely witty and feminist, with both subtle and outright humor interjected into the more serious, frustrating and sometimes dangerous misogyny experienced by professional women both past and present. I loved the character development throughout, but my favorite was Six Thirty, Elizabeth Zott’s beloved and highly loyal and intelligent dog. Don’t be put off by the nerdy science cover or setting; rest assured that while the science is accurate (and IMO interesting!), the Chemistry in the title is a play on words, also referring to the chemistry between people (there is romance!) and the chemistry involved in cooking (there is amazing food!). I laughed, I cried, I was livid - basically experienced ALL the feels. I highly, highly recommend this fabulous debut by Bonnie Garmus.
