The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams

May 1, 2021 (by Jessica Girotti)

Charming and original! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's not my typical genre but I am a lover of words and their history so I thought I'd give it a whirl and it didn't disappoint. I found Esme's story compelling but also really loved the historical aspect. I never really thought much about how the Oxford English Dictionary came to be and how subjective all of the definitions really are. Williams raises some very interesting and thought provoking points about the patriarchal development of our language.

Thank you to Ballantine Books and #NetGalley for allowing me to read a pre-release of this novel. My review was voluntary and all opinions are my own.
