Walking Together by Elder Albert Marshall

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel so grateful that my son still loves to snuggle up with mama to read picture books. ❤️

We just added Walking Together (published May 2nd) to our collection, and it’s beautiful! This gorgeously illustrated story unfolds along with spring as the children connect with emerging plants and animals as their teachers. 🌱🌿

The overarching message of protecting Mother Earth for present and future generations is grounded in Etuaptmumk, or Two-Eyed Seeing - braiding together the strengths of Indigenous and non-Indigenous ways of knowing the world. I was personally drawn to the book because I just love the Native American creation story of Turtle Island, or North America, which I first discovered in my favorite book, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. 🐢

The turtle as Mother Earth folklore inspired my poem in a new children’s poetry anthology coming out this November 2023 (stay tuned!)
