Getting started is often the hardest part! This two-hour interactive workshop is filled with activities and strategies to help you clarify what colleges are really looking for in personal essays, select a specific compelling topic and opening hook for your essay, and leave with a roadmap to completing your full draft. Please bring a notebook or personal device and get ready to brainstorm and write!
Laurie Edwards is a Teaching Professor in the Writing Program at Northeastern. She has published two award-winning health/science books and her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, NPR, and many other outlets. She has facilitated writing workshops and courses for adults, undergraduate students, and teens, has served as a college and graduate school essay consultant for many years, and as an alumni interviewer for Georgetown University, she has long-standing insights into the college application process.
This is the 1st session in our Bootcamp series. These stand-alone workshops are designed to complement each other, so attendees are welcome to attend as many as meet their needs and interests. The 2nd session will meet on August 19 and the final session (on Supplemental Essays) will meet on September 21.
