(l adored it. One of my favorites of the year!)

Hubert Bird, the main character in All the Lonely People by Mike Gayle, has stolen my heart and I would like it back now, thank you very much. This story of youth and aging, loss and love, immigration and community, left an indelible mark on me. Read this when you are in the mood for a sweet and charming portrait of the golden years that is at once heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman meets The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot.

Best paired with a slice of Black Forest Gateau that seems to consist almost entirely of shards of fluffy whipped cream, shards of chocolate, and oozing dark cherry jam.
