Summer Reading 2024

 David Mindness Elementary School

Incoming 5th Graders

Summer is the perfect time to foster the love of reading. Reading for pleasure is a critical component of reading development. Our recommendation is that students should be reading at least 20 minutes per day. They can read with their family, independently, while listening to an audio book, etc. Most importantly, students should read books in a way that fosters their love for reading.

We have put together some suggestions, but choose books that your child is excited to read! A typical fifth grade expectation is that a student can read an average chapter book within a week’s time. This summer is a great opportunity to start building your child’s reading stamina and increase their success with this expectation.
