This was a heart wrenching tale about Kya, who was abandoned by her entire family at a young age and her life in the marshes of North Carolina.  It is equal parts a story of survival, a love affair with nature, a coming of age romance, and society’s struggle to accept those who are different.  Did I mention there is a murder mystery thrown in there? The narrative style grabbed me from the start and a long list of well developed and complex supporting characters kept me intrigued throughout the novel.  A book you will be sorry to finish and one that will stay with you long after you put it down.
